Advanced Practice Nursing Position Description

Following these questions, I provided links to favorable job descriptions

1.  What is my dream job?

My dream job encompasses multiple aspects of advanced practice nursing.  I thrive on the ability to wear multiple hats, and as such, I truly hope to find opportunities which reach beyond, yet complement traditional clinic care.  I wish to create and initiate changes which promote the health and well-being of individuals, schools, and communities; what health care truly needs is a fresh approach to caring for our nation.  I plan to simultaneously engage in research and education, both of which truly satiate my personal quest for intellectual stimulation, professional competence, and personal gratification through sharing what I love -- knowledge.

2.  What are the requirements to gain this position?

The requirements include upholding a tenacious spirit and persevering work ethics.  Advanced practice certification, continuing education, and involvement with my professional organizations serve as wonderful starting points.  Through these actions, and in conjunction with political advocation, a strong foundational base arises through which I create professional practice conditions for my patients, myself, my nursing colleagues, and the unified efforts of our health care community.  Respect paves the ability to find personal and professional satisfaction and achievement for any potential employment opportunities.   Individuals come to appreciate and respect what, and whom, they understand.  In order for my patients, students, fellow colleagues, or communities to understand how I can help, I must know how to approach them to make what I say understood -- I must also teach.

3.  What responsibilities would it entail?

I find working with a diverse range of ages truly gratifying!  This is why I ultimately chose to pursue family practice nursing.  Whether I eventually serve within an established family practice, a public health setting, or even a  school-age or collegiate community,  I wish to extend my abilities beyond the identification and treatment of disease.  Each of these environments offers a wonderul opportunity through which holistic care can be integrated and implemented.  They also provide the privilege of finding new strategies and novel ways to create health promotion, disease prevention, and health management strategies.

Research and utilization of evidence based practice strategies anchors the delivery of comprehensive and holistic patient care.  Additionally, achieving quality care demands exemplary assessment skills and a solid understanding of pathophysiology, medications, and pharmacological interactions.  It is also essential that we do not forget the human experience factor that is unique to every individual!  I commit to providing and striving to deliver exceptional patient care through dedication, continuing education, respect and active listening -- through the desires, and perceived abilities of all individuals as well as my co-workers.   I feel these responsibilities make a substantial difference in the quality of care that is both given and received.

4.  What benefits would it provide to the profession?

I feel the benefits include exceptional consumer health care, enhanced acceptance of individuals' comprehensive and holistic needs,  and a safe environment where confidentiality and communication represent core attributes.  Additionally, it allows me as a practitioner to empathize and catch a glimpse into the perspectives and personal worlds of my patients.  It is one thing to treat, encourage, educate, and work with my patients regarding health promotion practices and treatment plans.  It is a challenge and invitation to do this in a way where individuals -- even society as a whole -- can ultimately bring their health care experience to their real world.  It is my wish for all individuals to be able to actively embrace what they wish for and receive from their health care experiences and incorporate it into their daily lives.
